A historic season
T2 put up a tremendous 2026 campaign, clinching the Pacific Division title, finishing second in the Western Conference and earned the opportunity to host their first-ever playoff match.
The squad features 2026 MLS NEXT Pro Goalkeeper of the Year and Best XI selection Sam Joseph, defender and Best XI honoree Nicklas Lund and Homegrown midfielder Eric Izoita who was also a Best XI selection and recently signed a first-team contract with the Portland Timbers. The team is led by MLS NEXT Pro Coach of the Year Finalist Jack Cassidy.
Additionally, Portland closed its 2026 campaign on a 12-game unbeaten streak (6-0-6), the longest such stretch in the league, while also leading the league in road wins (9) and clean sheets (14), a new single-season MLS NEXT Pro record.
MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs
With their second place conference finish, Timbers2 earned the right to host and in the league's Pick-Your-Opponent format, selected the No. 7 seed St. Louis.
In two meetings with St. Louis this season, T2 earned stoppage-time comeback results for a win and a draw on July 18 and Sept. 14, respectively. Playing away at CITY2, Portland earned all three points on the road in thrilling fashion after netting an equalizer in the 86th minute of play and then striking in the first minute of stoppage time to steal the victory at Energizer Park in a five-minute span. In their matchup at Providence Park, Timbers2 salvaged a point in regulation by burying a 90+4th minute equalizer from the penalty spot, going on to win the ensuing shootout to register an additional point.
