Timbers2 earn shutout win on the road, defeat Rapids 2

Behind a goal and an assist from Lucas Fernandez-Kim, Timbers2 earned another road win Saturday, defeating Rapids 2, 2-0.

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – Portland Timbers2 (8-3-4, 29pts) registered a 2-0 win on the road against Colorado Rapids 2 (0-10-5, 6pts) on Saturday evening. The result marks T2's fifth shutout win on the road this season, picking up momentum before they return home to Providence Park next Saturday the 27th where they are set to faceoff with San Jose.

Man of the Match
Lucas Fernandez-Kim led T2 to victory with a goal and an assist in tonight’s 2-0 win versus Colorado Rapids 2. After turning in the opening goal in the 56th minute, Fernandez-Kim added an assist to make it 2-0 just before full time, finding Maximilian Kissel who scored a goal of his own in the 84th minute. Fernandez-Kim is the second T2 player this season to find both an assist and a goal in the same match, after Noah Santos. Notably, his goal tonight was also his first MLS NEXT Pro and Timbers2 goal of his career.

 Eric Izoita received the ball on the right edge of Colorado’s box before rifling in a low cross that was cleared off the line by a defender. Lucas Fernandez-Kim then jumped on the ball, one touching it around the lone defender in the net to put T2 on the board. 

POR – Maximilian Kissel (Lucas Fernandez-Kim), 84th minute: Bryce VanVoorhis played a deep ball over the top of the defense to Lucas Fernandez-Kim who controlled the ball and made a streaking dribble past the Colorado left back. Fernandez-Kim then played a low-driven cross into Maximilian Kissel, who slid to reach the ball and smashed home T2’s second goal.
