MARSEILLE, FRANCE – Portland Timbers defender Finn Surman started and went 78 minutes for New Zealand as they lost 3-0 to host France Wednesday at the Stade de Marseille. With the loss, New Zealand finished in third place in Group A (1-2-0, 3pts) and saw their 2024 Paris Olympic journey come to an end.

Down only 1-0 at halftime, Surman's side chased a win to try to advance but Les Bleus – one of the Olympic medal favorites – scored twice in the final 15 minutes of the match to earn the win.

Surman started all three matches for New Zealand at the Olympics, including the team's tournament opening 2-1 victory over Guinea.
