ARLINGTON, Texas – Portland Timbers goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau made two stops in a penalty kick shootout as Canada defeated Venezuela in the Copa América quarterfinal at AT&T Stadium on Friday night.

In his fourth start of the tournament, Crépeau made two saves during regulation as the two sides finished level, 1-1, after 90 minutes. The match went straight to a penalty kick shootout. Crépeau made a diving effort to push one PK attempt off the left post. He made a stop on Venezuela’s sixth PK attempt.

Canada won the shootout, 4-3.

"It's a lot of work and now we have the fruit of our hard work,” Crépeau said to TSN in a post-game interview. “This is amazing to be in the semifinals of Copa América. I think everybody needs to realize this country and its footballers deserve respect."

Competing in its first Copa América, Canada moves on to the semifinal and will face Argentina – who they played in the Group Stage – on Tuesday, July 9, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey; kickoff is at 5 p.m. (Pacific). The match will air live on FS1.
