Portland Timbers players Donovan Ricketts and Ryan Johnson both started for Jamaica last night in their 2-0 loss to Honduras at the Estadio Tiburcio Carías Andino in the latest match of World Cup qualifying. The loss was a difficult setback for the Reggae Boyz as they remain in last place in the CONCACAF Hexagonal standings with an 0-4-2 record.
Johnson played 60 minutes in the match before being subbed out for Vancouver Whitecaps FC’s Darren Mattocks. Ricketts was credited with one save in the match.
While Timbers midfielder Rodney Wallace did not feature in the game, the Ticos frustrated Mexico in a 0-0 draw at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. With the draw, Costa Rica move into second place behind the U.S.A. in the Hex with a 2-1-2 record. They next return home to play host to Panama on Tuesday, June 18, at 7pm PT.
Timbers defender Futty Danso and The Gambia will visit Morocco on Saturday, June 15, at Stade de Marrakech in Marrakech, Morocco. The Scorpions were eliminated from World Cup qualification last weekend with their 3-0 loss to Ivory Coast in Group C of the CAF.
The U.S. Men’s National Team beat Panama 2-0 at CenturyLink Field last night in front of 40,847 with goals from Jozy Altidore and Eddie Johnson. They sit atop the group with a 3-1-1 record and next travel to play Honduras at Rio Tinto Stadium on June 18 at 6:30pm PT (ESPN).
The U.S. Men's National Team comes to Portland and JELD-WEN Field on July 9 for the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup. They will play Belize at 8pm PT as the second game of a double header with Cuba playing Costa Rica at 5:30pm PT.
