2013 Timbers Corporate Cup

PORTLAND, OR – The third annual Portland Timbers Corporate Cup adult soccer tournament, benefitting Portland Timbers' Pillar Partner Portland YouthBuilders (PYB), wrapped up this past weekend with a slate of championship matches.

Earlier in August, the event kicked off with a social event at Widmer Brothers Gasthaus Pub in mid-. Teams enjoyed food and drink, a raffle, auction and the opportunity to mingle with Timber Joey as well as other participants. Then on Aug. 10 and 11, a host of Pacific Northwest companies including CMD Agency, Core Health & Fitness, Lompoc Brewing, Microsoft, Nike, Timbers Front Office, UPS, Widmer Brothers and Wieden + Kennedy competed in qualifying play at the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreational District’s Howard M. Terpenning Complex. After a weekend of impressive play, Nike dominated the brackets and sent teams to face off in the championship against Wieden + Kennedy (Coed), Lompoc Brewing (Men’s Recreational), and UPS (Men’s Recreational) respectively.

Six teams arrived at JELD-WEN Field motivated to bring gold back to their companies. Over 500 fans were treated to three spectacular games that left them on the edge of their seats.

Nike swept the Mens' Competitive and Coed division championships while Lompoc Brewing took the Mens’ Recreational title. The final matches took place on Saturday, August 25 at the Timbers and Thorns FC home pitch, JELD-WEN Field.

Championship play started at 11am with the Mens’ Recreational final. After 90 minutes, Nike was unable to defend their 2012 title and lost to Lompoc Brewing  4-0.

At 1:30pm Nike and Wieden + Kennedy went head-to-head for the Coed trophy. A 5-1 result earned Nike the right to be the back-to-back champions (’12 and ’13) for this bracket.

In the last match of the day, Nike defeated UPS 6-2 to become the winners of the Men’s Competitive division for the third year in a row (’11, ’12 and ’13).
