Portland Timbers' Alvas Powell called up by Jamaica for friendlies against Barbados, St. Lucia

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers today announced that defender Alvas Powell has been called up by the Jamaica National Team for friendly matches against Barbados on Sunday, March 2, and St. Lucia on Wednesday, March 5.

Powell departs Friday to join the Reggae Boyz, who are preparing for the 2014 Caribbean Cup this fall. 

Powell, 19, has nine caps with Jamaica’s senior national team since making his debut Dec. 10, 2012, during the 2012 Caribbean Cup. The St. Thomas, Jamaica, native played in five of Jamaica’s final seven 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in 2013, making four starts. He started each of his last two appearances in friendlies for the Reggae Boyz against Trinidad & Tobago on Nov. 15 and Nov. 19, 2013. Powell has also represented Jamaica at the U-17 and U-20 levels.
