PORTLAND, Ore. – In conjunction with Major League Soccer and ESPN2, the Portland Timbers announced today that the kickoff time for the club’s match on Sunday, July 5, against the San Jose Earthquakes at Providence Park has been moved to 8 p.m. (Pacific) due to a heat advisory and unusually high temperatures forecast for the Portland area over the weekend. The match, originally scheduled for 2 p.m., will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes.
“The safety of our fans, players and everyone involved with the match is our No. 1 priority, and we appreciate the cooperation and partnership with MLS, ESPN2 and the Earthquakes in moving Sunday’s kickoff time to the evening when the stadium is much more shaded and temperatures have begun to lower,” said Mike Golub, president of business operations for the Timbers.
As a result of the kickoff time change, the viewing of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup final at Providence Park has been cancelled. There are several local pub partners set to show the match throughout the greater-Portland area. Click here for the list of pubs and locations.
The matchup will be the first meeting between the Timbers and Earthquakes this season.
