Timbers to host sixth-annual Rose City United Police vs. Fire charitable match Saturday

Rose City United, 9.4.19

PORTLAND, Ore. – Teams representing the Portland Police Bureau and Portland Fire & Rescue will square off in the sixth-annual Rose City United match, presented by FLIR, at Providence Park on Saturday, Sept. 7, it was announced today. Set to kickoff at 10 a.m. (Pacific), the match is free and open to the public with a suggested donation at the gate to benefit local charities.

Originating in 2014, the annual Rose City United match is a way of honoring the dedication and hard work that both agencies provide the city. Match attendees are strongly encouraged to bring a charitable donation of non-perishable food for the Portland Police Bureau’s Sunshine Division, a children’s toy for Portland Fire & Rescue Toy & Joy Makers or a cash donation, which will be split between the two charities. All donations will be accepted at Gate F at Providence Park upon match entry.

Former Timbers players and current Stand Together ambassadors Jack Jewsbury and Nat Borchers will serve as guest coaches for the two teams. For the first time, each team will be able to substitute its coach for one five-minute period at any time during the match as a “lifeline substitution.” The match will feature many of the familiar elements of a regular Timbers MLS match and will feature two 40-minute halves.
