Timbers launch 2011 Active Bodies Active Minds assembly program, presented by Burgerville

Active Bodies Active Minds

This past Friday, Timbers mascot Timber Joey kicked off the Portland Timbers’ 2011 Active Bodies Active Minds assembly program, presented locally by Burgerville, by visiting Menlo Park Elementary in northeast Portland.

Timber Joey educated a group of 500 kindergarteners through fifth-graders about subjects like eating properly, exercising both the body and the mind and getting the proper amount of sleep. The lumberjack also brought a few lucky kids up to the front of the room to help him demonstrate some exercises to keep their bodies fit.

Joey had the help of Timbers players, as the kids were shown videos of Timbers players talking about their favorite healthy snacks and their favorite books to keep their minds sharp.

Joey was back in action again Monday afternoon, taking his lesson to approximately 300 youngsters at the Faubion School. This time, Joey had assistance from Timbers community ambassador and former player Scot Thompson, who joined the program to share his secrets about staying fit through exercising and good eating habits.

At the end of the hour-long assembly, Timber Joey wrapped things up the only way he knows how: revving his chainsaw while leading the kids in a Timbers Army chant.
