PORTLAND, Ore. – United Soccer Leagues announced today that Portland Timbers U-23s midfielder Bim Ogunyemi was selected to the Premier Development League Team of the Week for Week 5. It’s his first PDL Team of the Week selection in 2011.
With a pair of starts and a goal scored, Ogunyemi, 20, helped the Timbers U-23s to back-to-back wins over the North Sound SeaWolves and Tacoma Tide last week. With the victories, the Timbers U-23s extended their current unbeaten streak to four games.
Additionally, Timbers U-23s forward Miles Byass was named an honorable mention on the PDL Team of the Week for Week 5. He scored a combined three goals last week in the matches against North Sound and Tacoma.
Ogunyemi has started all five games in 2011 and has recorded two goals. He was named an honorable mention on the PDL Team of the Week for Week 2 earlier this season.
The Timbers U-23s play host to the Kitsap Pumas on Friday at JELD-WEN Field at 11 a.m. as part of the team’s Health and Science School Day, presented by Providence Health & Services. The match doubles as a final qualifier for a 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup berth, with the winner advancing to the tournament.
