PORTLAND, Ore. – Felipe Mora scored while Diego Valeri joined an elite MLS group with a goal but the Portland Timbers lost to the LA Galaxy 3-2 Wednesday night at Providence Park.

Match Moments

2' - SAVE (POR) - A lofted ball over the top to LA's Cristian Pavón had him head towards the lower corner only to have Timbers goalkeeper Jeff Attinella alertly dive to his left to parry the ball away.

15' - GOAL (LA) - The visitors opened the scoring when the Galaxy went towards the endline with Sebastian Lletget before he cut a ball back for Efrain Álvarez. Álvarez then fired it into the back of the Portland net to give the Timbers a 1-0 deficit.

23' - CHANCE (POR) - Timbers midfielder Marvin Loría sent in an out-swinging corner kick that found defender Bill Tuiloma open near the top of the 18-yard box. Tuiloma snapped his header towards the far post but just wide.

26' - CHANCE (POR) - Cristian Paredes chipped a ball over the LA backline that Felipe Mora chested down and hit towards goal but the shot was deflected away by a Galaxy defender.

35' - SAVE (POR) - Attinella again came up with a key save as another Galaxy cutback play found Lletget who hit a hard shot on target but the Portland 'keeper jumped high to his left to push it over the bar.

42' - CHANCE (POR) - With Portland working on some patient build-up around the LA box, midfielder Tomás Conechny took a good shot that was blocked out just wide for a corner.

50' - GOAL (LA) - The Galaxy doubled their lead as Pavón took a deft first touch on a long ball before heading into the box, cutting the ball back and scoring to make it 2-0 for LA.

55' - CHANCE (POR) - Defender Marco Farfan floated a ball towards goal that carried and just pinged off the cross bar.

58' - SAVE (POR) - On an LA corner, Attinella denied Galaxy's Joe Corona point-blank shot from the back post.

67' - GOAL (POR) - Portland cut the lead in half as Renzo Zambrano dribbled to the LA endline and chipped a ball towards goal. Galaxy goalkeeper David Bingham got a hand to it but tipped it only as far as Andy Polo atop the six-yard box. He settled it for Mora who then slotted it into the far lower corner to make the score 2-1.

71' - GOAL (LA) - LA went up 3-1 though when a loose ball in the Timbers box found its way to Joe Corona near the arc who hit it into the upper left corner of the Portland net.

76' - CHANCE (POR) - Sebastián Blanco, who had come on in the 56th minute, took a blistering shot from 20 yards out that clanged hard off the Galaxy crossbar.

80' - OFFSIDE (POR) - Jeremy Ebobisse thought he had scored the Timbers' second goal of the night but it was ruled offside on a very close call.

90+2' - GOAL (POR) - Diego Valeri achieved an MLS milestone when he scored his 80th career goal making him only the third player in MLS history to have 80 career goals and 80 career assists. The goal came as Blanco sprayed a ball out to the right for Yimmi Chara. Chara spied Valeri wide open on the far post, chipped it his way with Valeri taking the ball down before he nutmegged Bingham with his shot to make it 3-2.
