As part of our inaugural group of ticket holders, Henry and Gillian won the chance to have a VIP experience for the Portland Timbers vs. Real Salt Lake match on October 17, including KeyBank Club seats, and a chance to visit with Timber Joey on the field!
We asked them a few questions after the match.
What was your first memory of/first match supporting the Timbers?
"I remember seeing Scot "with one T" Thompson play back in the USL days. Later he coached our daughter at BSC (a local club team) and now he's a Thorns assistant coach. My girls are all great soccer players... hopefully they can follow Scot to be coached under him with the Thorns some day!"
What was your favorite moment of the match tonight?
"Ricketts’ save where he had to suddenly react, drive, and stretch out to his left to get a ball that surely looked like it could have been a goal, if not for our awesome goalie..."
Who would you nominate as Player of the Match?
"Diego Chara - Diego was all over the field as usual, continuously challenging their attack to keep RSL in check. Not only that, but I recall Diego delivering several beautiful balls in our attack, one that curved precisely around an RSL defender and back to the feet of a charging Timber... RSL was truly lucky to get out of Portland with a point!"
What is your prediction for the next match – Timbers versus FC Dallas?
"The Timbers will win in Dallas, of course!"
What else should we know about your Timbers fandom?
"Gillian and I have decided to go to at least one Timbers away match each year. In 2012, we went to Chicago and happened to be on the same plane with the team on the way home. The players were so gracious and we got photos with a bunch of the players. In 2011, we went to Salt Lake - this time we were in the same hotel as the Timbers and again were able to get pictures with several players. Now we've been lucky enough to be honored as Members of the Match - our Timbers karma is pretty darn good I'd say! What could be next?"
