As part of our inaugural group of ticket holders, Willie and Sarah won the chance to have a VIP experience for the Portland Timbers vs. San Jose Earthquakes match on October 8th, including KeyBank Club seats, and a chance to visit with Timber Joey on the field!
We asked them a few questions after the match.
What was your first memory of/first match supporting the Timbers?
Our first date was a Timbers game back when they were in the USL. Best first date ever!
What was your favorite moment of the match tonight?
Wallace getting that first goal, after so many great chances... to finally get one in the net was what we all needed.
Who would you nominate as Player of the Match?
Hard to not pick Valeri, such control, skill and poise. Sarah wants to pick Wallace, loves the way he moves with the ball and we both agree how fun it is to see his development over the past 4 years.
What is your prediction for the next match – Timbers versus Real Salt Lake?
2-0 Timbers victory, both Ricketts and Rimando will have nominations for save of the week after this match.
What else should we know about your Timbers fandom? Any favorite pieces of Timbers memorabilia?
We love the Thorns. Starting a professional women's team in Portland was our lottery winner dream. So once the Thorns came into existence we went all in to support them. The quality of their play is amazing.
Our 17 month old daughter loves her mini Timbers and mini Thorns soccer balls, we play together with them all the time. Most unique memorabilia is the jersey and log slab from Pore's famous "sunflower goal" (last goal scored at PGE Park). I got into the stadium as soon as the gates opened and went straight to the auction table to secure Pore's jersey and after the match when I met him on the pitch he gave me the log slab too. It is signed by both Pore and Timber Joey.
