As part of our inaugural group of ticket holders, Doug and Teresa won the chance to have a VIP experience for the Portland Timbers vs. San Jose Earthquakes match on September 7th, including KeyBank Club seats, and a chance to visit with Timber Joey on the field!
We asked Doug a few questions after the match.
What was your first memory of/first match supporting the Timbers?
My wife, daughter and I went to Merlo Field at the University of Portland to see the Timbers beat Chivas USA 2-0 in a US Open Cup game at the beginning of the first Timbers MLS season. It was awesome! The crowd was small but loud and singing the whole game (and it was pouring down rain, perfect). We have been hooked ever since.
What was your favorite moment of the match tonight?
Meeting all of the wonderful staff. We are so impressed with the enthusiasm, dedication and commitment to service of everyone we met. What an awesome experience.
Who would you nominate as Player of the Match?
Diego Valeri – he is a joy to watch. Truly a special player and he had a historic evening with the amount of chances he created. Simply magical.
What is your prediction for the next match – Timbers versus Colorado Rapids?
How about 4-0 Timbers. I hope the boys finish their chances early so we can all just relax.
What else should we know about your Timbers fandom? Any gameday superstitions or favorite pieces of Timbers memorabilia? How did you enjoy your match experience?
We park at the 10th and Morrison garage and make the walk up to the stadium before every game. We love the atmosphere and the community so we try new eateries and experiences every time. My favorite piece of memorabilia is the skateboard deck that was a give-a-way in 2011. That is the best give-a-way ever! We have three of them. The Axe Society experience was a huge honor. We are so grateful and humbled by the experience. What a great opportunity! Thank you so much.
