The Storyline
When it comes to Saturday’s matchup, there are few tricks left to deploy. The Timbers and San Diego FC have already played each other three times this season, with two of those matchups coming in a nine-day span – between Decision Day on Oct. 18 and Round One’s Game 1 on Oct. 26.
In 12 single-game elimination scenarios since 2011, the Timbers hold a record of 6-3-3. In penalty-kick shootout scenarios during the MLS Cup Playoffs, Portland is 2-2-0 all-time.
With the Timbers as the Western Conference’s No. 8 seed, Saturday’s match will be the final match at Providence Park for the 2025 campaign.
