The Storyline
Portland Timbers (4th in West, 8-5-6, 30pts) vs New England Revolution (11th in East, 6-6-6, 24pts)
The Timbers are looking to bounce-back from only their fifth loss of the season at Toronto last weekend, hosting New England for the first time since the dramatic 2022 season opener. On that cold, wet, February night the Timbers showed their fighting spirit coming back from a goal deficit twice to share points with the Revolution. Despite the rain, fans in attendance were delighted to some of the best Timbers goals seen to start a campaign, with Yimmi Chara's split-second bicycle kick sealing the score.
On Saturday, the two sides meet for the first time in 1,229 days. In the 11 all-time MLS meetings between the two clubs, the Timbers are 2-1-8 against the Revolution. Portland is 2-0-4 against New England at Providence Park.
The Revolution come into town on a high following their come-from-behind, 3-3 draw with the Colorado Rapids. Designated Player Carles Gil led the charge from 3-nil down, and Maxi Urruti delivered a dramatic stoppage-time goal to snatch a point from the Rapids in the 93rd minute.
The Revs feature two familiar names that helped the Timbers win the 2015 MLS Cup - head coach Caleb Porter (now with New England) and Urruti. Portland is celebrating the 10th Anniversary of winning MLS Cup on July 16.
